Characteristics

Plants up to 40 mm high, forming small tufts. Corm subglobose, 10-15 mm diam.; tunics of alternating layers of fine fibres and hard, cartilaginous material, with thickened vertical ribs, accumulating with age in collar around base. Stem underground or reaching up to 10 mm above ground. Leaves ± 3, lowermost inserted well below ground shortly above corm, short and inconspicuous, remaining 2 leaves inserted at ground level, ± prostrate, narrowly lanceolate, 20-35 x 3-4 mm, shallowly channelled, margins hyaline, smooth or minutely ciliate. Rhipidial spathes not distinct from leaves; with 2 to 4 flowers per plant. Flowers fugaceous, salver-shaped, pale yellow with median brown or purplish markings at top of darker yellow cup 7-10 mm deep; perianth tube cylindric, 8-10(-15) mm long; tepals obovate, 20-25 x 7-10 mm. Filaments ± 7 mm long, united in a baluster-shaped column, free and diverging in upper ± 1 mm; anthers 2.0-2.5 mm long, yellow; pollen yellow. Ovary ± 4 x 2 mm; style erect, reaching 1.5-2.0 mm above anther tips, branches deeply fringed spreading above anthers. Capsules and seeds unknown.
