Characteristics

Small shrub, 0.3–1 m. tall; branchlets sparsely pubescent or hispid, glabrate.. Leaves shortly petiolate, ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 1–3.2 cm. long, 0.4–1.5 cm. wide, rounded, subacute, emarginate, narrowly to widely cuneate or rounded at the base, glabrous on both surfaces except for a few hairs along the midrib above and hair pockets in the angles beneath.. Inflorescence (2–)3(–4)-flowered cymes, axillary or terminal on short branches; peduncle 0.3–2 cm. long; pedicels 0.3–0.8 cm., like the peduncle slender and glabrous or very sparsely pubescent.. Calyx-lobes elliptic, about 1.5 mm. long, obtuse or subacute, sometimes very shortly and sparsely ciliate otherwise glabrous.. Corolla white, the tube 7–9 mm. long.. Filaments puberulous, slender, 4–5 mm. long in thrum-eyed flowers, much exceeding the styles.. Ovary narrowly ovoid.. Fruit not known.

Leaf lamina ovate, narrowly ovate, elliptic, or narrowly elliptic, variable in shape and size, 1·25–2·5 x as long as wide, 6–35 x 5–23 mm., sometimes smaller, obtuse, rounded, or occasionally acute at the apex, cuneate, rounded, or subcordate at the base, above sparsely pubescent on the costa, beneath less so on the costa and veins to glabrous.
Sepals equal, connate at the base, narrowly ovate, about 2 x as long as wide, 1–1·2 x 0·5–0·6 mm., obtuse, often minutely ciliate, glabrous on both sides; after the shedding of the corolla seemingly topped by the brush–like apical hairs of the ovary which is slightly longer.
Inflorescence terminal on short lateral branches or axillary, usually much longer than the leaves, 1–5·5 cm. long, 1–many–flowered.
Twigs pubescent and usually with a bare stripe above the leaves when young, glabrescent.
Corolla white or orange, 4–7 x as long as the calyx, 4–8 mm. long.
Capsule medium brown, sparsely appressed–pubescent or –pilose.
Shrub or small liana, about 1–1·5 m. high.
