Characteristics

Mostly perennial herb 20–60 cm. tall, ± stoloniferous, the stems sometimes flushed crimson.. Leaves elliptic to oblong or oblong-oblanceolate, 1–7.5 cm. long, 0.5–1.5 cm. wide, obtuse but apiculate at the apex, rounded to cuneate at base, the cauline leaves smaller, the basal ones strongly narrowed into a winged petiole to 2 cm. long, adpressed pubescent, above often with dense cystoliths at base of hairs, eventually glabrous save for margins and midrib.. Flowers in tight densely pubescent head-like cymes ± 1 cm. long, terminal and paired on main and also some lateral branches, eventually becoming up to 10 cm. long; pedicels eventually 6–8 mm. long.. Calyx 2–2.2(–3) mm. long; lobes 1.2–1.4(– 2) mm. long.. Corolla pink in bud then bright blue, whitish yellow in centre; tube ± 1.5 mm. long with papillate gibbosities; lobes ± 2 mm. long, 2.2 mm. wide..
