Characteristics

Shrub or small tree to 7 m high; bark nondescript, lenticels prominent whitish. Leaves: petiole 3–8 mm long; lamina lanceolate to obovate, 4–17.5 cm long, 1.7–4.8 cm wide, entire margin, obtuse apex, discolorous, coriaceous, glands dense, globular pellucid, occasional lineate. Inflorescence with 4–7 flowers per fascicle, peduncles 1–6 (–10) mm long; pedicels cylindrical to 1–2.5 mm long. Flowers dissimilar in size and shape, 5-merous (rarely 4); pedicels 1–2.5 mm long; corolla cream. Male flowers to 4.5 mm long, tube narrow, lobes spreading, female to 3 mm long, campanulate; anthers 1–1.5 mm long; ovary c. 1.5 mm long, stigma capitate, slightly angled; ovules 3 (or 4). Fruit globular to depressed-globular, 2.5–4 × 3–4 mm, mauve to dark blue.
