Characteristics

Shrub or small tree to 5 m high, often multi-stemmed; bark rough. Leaves: petiole 2–4 mm long; lamina oblanceolate to elliptic to obovate, often slightly asymmetrical, 4.2–11 cm long, 2.1–4.7 cm wide, cuneate base, entire margin or somewhat irregular towards apex, obtuse to emarginate apex, coriaceous, glands orange to red, globular to irregular. Inflorescence with 3 or 4 flowers per fascicle, peduncles 1–2 mm long. Flowers usually 4-merous, pedicels 1.5–3 mm long; calyx and corolla similar in both sexes, corolla campanulate, to 3 mm long, slightly smaller in female; anthers 2 mm long; ovary > 1 mm long; stigma flattened, irregularly lobed, spreading; ovules 6. Fruit globular to depressed-globular, 3.5–4 × 3.5–4.5 mm, purple.
