Characteristics

Tree to 15 m high. Stems ± smooth. Leaves: petiole 3–6 mm long; lamina oblanceolate-elliptic or narrowly elliptic, (3.5–) 5–7 (–12) cm long, (1.2–) 1.7–2.5 (–4) cm wide, (10–20 cm long on juvenile shoots), acute at base, slightly recurved, not undulate margin, obtuse apex, with raised pits on under surface, brown dots visible when held against the light, venation obscure below, finely raised reticulate above. Inflorescence clustered to subumbellate, c. 4–10-flowered; pedicels c. 2 mm long. Calyx cup-shaped, c. 1 mm long, divided to middle; lobes 5, persistent. Corolla tube c. 1 mm long; lobes 5, narrowly triangular, c. 2 mm long, streaked and spotted. Stamens 5, in female flowers abortive (male flowers not seen). Ovary globose-conical, c. 1.5 mm long; stigma pulvinate. Fruit globular, 4–5 mm diam., purple.
