Characteristics

Shrub or small tree to c. 5 m high. Leaves: petiole 3–4.5 mm long, rusty hairs or papillae often present; lamina lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate/rhomboidal to occasionally oblanceolate, 4.7–9 cm long, 1.5–3 cm wide, cuneate to attenuate base, entire, flat to slightly revolute margin, obtuse apex, coriaceous, glands globular, red, occasional lineate pellucid. Inflorescence with 5–7 flowers per fascicle, peduncles 1–3 mm long. Flowers usually 5-merous, pedicels 1–1.5 mm long; calyx and corolla similar for both sexes, corolla campanulate, cream, to 2 mm long; anthers c. 1 mm long; ovary to 1 mm long; stigma lobed, spreading; ovules 2 or 3. Fruit depressed-globular, 2.5–3.0 × 3.5–4 mm, mauve.
