Characteristics

Small tree to 6 m high; lenticels prominent on twigs. Leaves: petiole 3–6 mm long; lamina elliptic to oblanceolate, 5–9.5 cm long, 2.6–3.7 cm wide, cuneate base, entire, weakly revolute, often weakly undulate margin, obtuse apex, shiny upper surface when fresh, paler below, coriaceous, glands chiefly globular or irregular red, pellucid lineate near midrib. Inflorescence with 4 or 5 flowers per fascicle, peduncles c. 1 mm long. Flowers 4–6-merous on same branch, pedicels 2 (–4) mm long. Male flowers not seen. Female corolla campanulate, cream, c. 2 mm long; ovary c. 1.5 mm long; stigma flattish on top, sides with c. 5 ridges; ovules 5. Fruit depressed-globular c. 3.5 × 4.5 mm.
