Characteristics

Shrub or small tree 1.5–9 m high; bark whitish or mottled grey. Leaves: petiole 3–8 mm long; lamina elliptic to lanceolate to obovate, 7–18 cm long, 1.6–7 cm wide, cuneate base, entire, flat to shallowly revolute margin, acute to obtuse apex, green above but paler below drying greyish, coriaceous, glands chiefly globular and lineate pellucid, plus very small red globular. Inflorescence with 4–9 flowers per fascicle, peduncles 1–4 mm long. Flowers 4-merous, pedicels 2–9 mm long, corolla white to cream. Calyx and corolla similar in both sexes, urceolate; female corolla larger, to 5 mm long, lobes short; anthers squarish, c. 0.8 mm long; ovary c. 0.75–1 mm long; stigma flat with margins spreading; ovules 5. Fruit globular, 3–4 mm diam., purple to black.
