An erect or ascending herb, robust or wiry, glabrous or nearly so, shining, branched from the base, 1/2-2 1/2 ft. high; root apparently perennial; branches opposite, smooth, tetragonous, furrowed, quite glabrous or rarely somewhat pilose, moderately leafy and spreading or erect-patent, ascending; leaves opposite, ovate or sublanceolate, acute or apiculate, more or less narrowed at the 5-nerved shortly petiolate base, serrate or incise, dentate, 1/2-3 in. long, 1/10-1 3/4 in. broad, membranous, glabrous; petioles ranging up to 1 in. long; racemes terminal and axillary, more or less lax, many-or few-flowered or sometimes reduced to a single axillary flower, weak or slender, ranging up to 4 in. long; bracts small, mostly linear or subulate, alternate or opposite or sometimes verticillate; pedicels inserted in the axils of the bracts, slender, spreading, ascending, 1/4-3/4 in. long; calyx-segments oval-linear, obtuse, 1/16-1/6 in. long, glabrous or nearly so; corolla white or pink-white; lips about 1/5-1/4 in. long; lobes of the upper lip short, rounded; spur narrowly conical or conical-prolonged, obtuse, slightly curved, 1/4-1/3 in. long; capsules oblong, subtruncate at the apex, unequal and rounded or scarcely narrowed at the base, 1/3-1/2 in. long, 1/4-1/3 in. broad, glabrous; valves with their top lines inclined at a very obtuse angle towards each other, with the outer points diverging and slightly or scarcely horned.

Leaves shortly petiolate; blade ovate to sublanceolate, 12-80 x 2.5-45.0 mm, apex acute, apiculate, base 5-veined, margins serrate or incised. Flowers in few-to many-flowered, terminal racemes, up to 100 mm long, sometimes lax or reduced to a single, axillary flower; spur conical or conical-prolonged, 6.4-8.5 mm long; corolla upper lip 4-lobed, lobes 5.0-6.4 mm, apices rounded, pale pink to white; Oct.-Apr. Fruit an oblong capsule, 8.5-12.5 x 6.4-8.5 mm, apex subtruncate, base unequal and rounded to scarcely narrowed, valves obtusely angled, slightly horned.

Spur narrowly conical or cylindrical, ± straight, mostly 4.0-5.5(-8.0) mm long. Flowering time mainly Sept.-Dec. Fruit a large capsule, up to 17 x 9 mm, oblong.
