Characteristics

Annual or biennial herb. Leaves alternate, small, woolly-hairy. Capitula small, aggregated in dense terminal glomerules, disciform; receptacle paleate, with linear, laciniate paleae; phyllaries 2–3-seriate, the innermost longest. Outer florets in several series, female, filiform; inner florets few, hermaphrodite; anthers sagittate, with acuminate apices; style bifid with short obtuse arms. Achenes laterally compressed; pappus of free barbellate bristles, 1-seriate.
