Characteristics

The scape [as 'stem'] is compressed. Leaves up to about 2 cm wide, thicker and tougher and more leathery texture than [most] others in the genus. Scape short, 10 to 25 cm, and thick, 1-3 cm. The perianth segments are arranged, not in a regular and evenly distributed manner, but generally with five ascending and one below the filaments, or with all six more more or less in pairs and ascending. The segments are only very slightly crisped and they all have a clearly defined central darker coloured keel running the full length of the segment. No filament appendages.

Geophyte, up to 300 mm high. Leaves 6-8; present at flowering; distichous; flat on ground; blade linear, 180-360 x 12-20 mm. Flowers: in a many-flowered umbel; pedicels 45-100 mm, glabrous; stamen appendages absent; perianth angled downwards, zygomorphic, with tube 3 mm long, lobes narrowly linear-ovate, 37-38 mm long, pinkish mauve; Jan., Feb. Fruit a subglobose, membranous capsule.
Geophyte, up to 300 mm tall. Pedicels glabrous, woody in fruit. Leaves broader than 10 mm, distichous, flat on ground or erect. Umbel up to 300 mm in diameter. Flowers pinkish mauve.
