Characteristics

A small terrestrial herb 7–13 cm. high.. Tuber spherical or ellipsoid, 0.7–1 cm. long, 0.7 cm. diameter, tomentose; roots slender, flexuous, pubescent.. Leaf solitary, produced after inflorescence has withered, horizontal but not prostrate, cordate but obscurely 7-angled, 5 cm. long, 5.5 cm. broad, sparsely covered above with short white hairs, dark green, pale beneath or rarely dark purple.. Inflorescence erect, 1-flowered, to 13 cm. tall; scape terete, bearing 1–2 acute sheaths; bract lanceolate, acute, 4 mm. long, 0.5 mm. broad.. Flower spreading, never opening widely, with pale green sepals and petals lined with purple; lip white, spotted rose-purple.. Dorsal sepal lanceolate, acute, 1.8 cm. long, 0.3 cm. broad; lateral sepals similar but slightly shorter.. Petals lanceolate, acute, 1.6 cm. long, 0.2 cm. broad.. Lip elliptic, ± obscurely 3-lobed in middle, 1.4 cm. long, 1 cm. broad, spurred at base, margins pectinate in apical half; short papillae on apical half of 3 central veins.. Leaf solitary, appearing after flowering (sometimes sterile specimens with fully developed leaves can be seen together with flowering specimens), horizontal but not prostrate, (1.5)2.9–5.0 × (1.9)3.5–5.5 cm, ±polygonal or star-shaped, the upper surface sparsely covered with short hairs (very occasionally glabrous), hairs absent fromthe main veins but following the small veins radially, dark green above, pale green or sometimes purple beneath; veins 5–7; petiole 2–6 cm long, sulcate with 1–2 sheathing cataphylls.
Flowers more or less horizontal, fragrant with a camphor scent .Sepals and petals spreading, closing again after about 8 hours anthesis, subequal, lanceolate, acute, pale green lined with purple; lateral sepals slightly oblique, 10.5–22 × 3 mm; petals slightly shorter and 2 mm wide, lanceolate, acute.
Lip spurred, 10–19(including spur) × 8.5–10 mm, elliptic, ± obscurely 3-lobed in middle, white with purple dots and yellow towards base, shortly papillate on inner surface, veins with no or very few anastomoses, margins pectinate in apical half; spur straight, short, rounded, 1.5–3 × 1.2 mm.
Scape erect, terete, 1-flowered, with 2–3 sheathing cataphylls, lengthening to 9–19 cm when fruiting.
Erect terrestrial herb 5–14 cm tall, glabrous except for leaf, lip and subterranean parts.
Column almost straight, 4.5–6 mm, clavate, glabrous; pollinia 1.5–2 mm long.
