Characteristics

Low tufted or somewhat straggling shrublets, 60-150(-250) mm high. Stem sparsely branched above, few to several(-20) per plant, leafy part ± 1 mm wide, older stems up to 2 mm diam. Leaves linear-lanceolate to linear, 20-40 x 1.3-2.0 mm. Inflorescence 1-to 4-flowered, congested, subtended by a dry bract 7-9 mm long, peduncle compressed, angular, 10-20(-30) mm long, flowers solitary within opposed spathes; spathes ± 6.5 mm long, green in lower 1/3, dry and dark brown above, acute, upper margins hyaline; floral bract ± 7 mm long, dark brown, upper margin ± transparent, ± lacerate. Flowers salver-shaped with tepals cupped, not heterostylous, pale blue with darker blue mark at base of each tepal; perianth tube ± 7 mm long, narrowly funnel-shaped; tepals obovate, obtuse, widest in upper 1/3, 13-15 x 6-8 mm. Filaments ± 2 mm long; anthers initially 1.5 mm long, 1.0-1.2 mm after pollen shed, yellow; pollen yellow. Style 10-12 mm long; branches filiform, 2.5-3.0 mm long, ascending, white. Capsules obovoid, ± 4.5 mm long. Seeds compressed to ± irregularly angled, (1)2-4 per locule, ± 2 mm wide.
