Characteristics

Dioecious climber or liane, sometimes shrub or scrambler, sparsely strigose to glabrous; twigs with vertically elongated pale brown lenticels. Leaves alternate, the lamina broadly elliptic to obovate, entire to lightly crenulate, acute to acuminate apex, cuneate to rounded at base, (6–) 12–15 cm long, 5–7.5 cm wide, with dense punctiform cystoliths, sparsely strigose on veins, 3-veined from base, with 1 or 2 more pairs near apex, reticulate veins ± at right angles to midrib; petiole (1–) 3–5 cm long, lightly strigose; stipules to 6 mm long. Inflorescences 2–4 per axil, to 10 cm long, the females slightly longer. Male flowers c. 1 mm long, strigose. Female flowers: to 1.5 mm long, 1 mm wide; perianth orifice protruded slightly, 4-dentate, strigose; stigma 3 mm long, caducous. Achenes obovoid, c. 1.5 mm long, c. 1 mm wide, enclosed by white or cream succulent perianth.
