Species

Angiosperms > Apiales > Apiaceae > Notobubon

Characteristics

Evergreen shrubs, ca. 1 m tall, strongly anise-scented. Stem woody, repeatedly branched, branches woody, permanent, striate, very slightly scabrous along ribs. Leaves cauline, regularly arranged along the upper parts of the branches, permanent, sclerophyllous, (10)20-35 x 5-15 mm; blade narrowly ovate to lanceolate; 2-pinnate, rachis with 4 to 7 pairs of lateral pinnules. Ultimate leaflet segments oblanceolate to obovate, 4-10 x 3-8 mm, 2-or 3-cleft or 2-lobed rarely entire; venation pinnate, obscure on adaxial surface; concolorous, green; lobes very narrowly lanceolate to cultrate, subterete, 1.5-5.0 x 0.5-1 mm, margins entire. Petioles up to 7 mm long, sheathing along their entire length. Inflorescence long (more than two times longer than the diameter of the primary umbel), peduncle striate, with a larger terminal umbel and 0 to 4 smaller lateral umbels; umbels compound. Primary umbel with (2)3-6 rays, flat-topped; bracts lanceolate, apex acuminate, very sparsely scabrous; rays 4-15 mm long at anthesis, unequal, scabrous; bracteoles lanceolate, apex acuminate, densely scabrous; raylets scabrous. Flowers pentamerous, predominantly hermaphroditic, those in the lateral umbels often entirely or in part functionally male; sepals small, 0.1-0.3 mm long, apex acute, slightly scabrous; petals yellow, elliptic to obovate, acuminate, with inflexed tips, slightly scabrous. Fruit dorsally compressed, broadly elliptic to elliptic, 5.0-7.0 x 4.0-5.0 mm, glabrous; mericarps homomorphic; median and lateral ribs very slightly prominent; marginal ribs broadly-winged; commissural vittae 2, narrow; vallecular vittae 4, solitary, narrow; additional vittae under vascular bundles in ribs absent; commissure very broad, 100% of mericarp width; carpophore bipartite.
