Characteristics

Much branched evergreen shrub or small tree 0.5–3(–6 fide K.T.S.L.), tall; stems pale, not lenticellate.. Leaves thin, narrowly elliptic, oblong-elliptic or oblanceolate, 2.3–7.5(–12) cm long, 0.6–2.2(–3.5) cm wide, aristate at the apex, cuneate at the base; margins entire or slightly serrulate above but with fine elongate gland-tipped setae up to 4.5(–5.5) mm long near base or with spaced setae all round margin; petiole 2–3 mm long; stipules linear-triangular, 4 mm long, 1.5 mm wide at base.. Flowers solitary; pedicels 1.3–2 cm long, jointed at base or 1 mm above.. Sepals ovate-lanceolate, 10–13 mm long, 3.5–6 mm wide, becoming red in fruit but hardly enlarging.. Petals yellow, 10–15 mm long, 7–9 mm wide.. Anthers 5–6 mm long, dehiscing by apical pores; filaments 4 mm long.. Carpels 5; styles 13–14 mm long, very shortly free at apex.. Drupelets black, 6 mm long, 3–4 mm wide.
