Characteristics

Much branched shrub 3–3.6 m tall or tree to 8 m with grey or yellowish often powdery or scaly bark; branches grey-brown or yellowish, ± ridged and minutely flaky or ± powdery; youngest shoots purplish brown, lenticellate.. Leaves drying pale brown or greenish brown, elliptic to slightly obovate, 4–7.5(–21) cm long, 2.3–4(–8) cm wide, subacute, obtusely acuminate or rounded at the apex and sometimes with short apiculum, narrowed to a truncate or slightly subcordate base or cuneate, margin serrate with incurved teeth; lateral veins ± 30, becoming strongly incurved at the margin, anastomosing or the marginal vein reaching near to the apex, together with the well marked subparallel tertiary venation very prominent on both surfaces; petiole 2–4 mm long, winged from decurrent leaf-base; stipules linear-triangular, 4–5 mm long, striate at apex, narrowly bifid, fairly soon deciduous.. Flowers solitary or more often in 2–4(–6)-flowered subumbelliform inflorescences; pedicels slender, 1.5–4 cm long, jointed (5–)7–17 mm from the base.. Sepals yellowish red, oblong to oblong-obovate or ovate, 4–6 mm long, 3 mm wide, 9–11 mm long, 4.5–6 mm wide in fruit, not spreading.. Petals bright yellow, obovate, 5–7 mm long, up to 5 mm wide.. Anthers 1.5–2 mm long, shorter than filaments, dehiscing by apical pores.. Carpels 5; styles free at apex for just over 1 mm.. Drupelets ellipsoid, 8–13 mm long.
