Characteristics

Shrub about 3.6 m tall with grey thick branches with bark ± ridged and peeling; youngest parts without obvious lenticels.. Leaves not adult at flowering stage, restricted to youngest part of stems, narrowly oblong-oblanceolate, about 9 cm long, 2.3 cm wide, probably ± acute at apex, cuneate at the base, margins with rather sparse aculeate teeth, venation not yet developed and prominent save at extreme base; petiole ± 8 mm long with leaf-base narrowly decurrent; stipules triangular, up to 6 mm long, striate.. Flowers on leafless branches on spur shoots so closely placed that they form a tight 30–40-flowered 3.5x4.5 cm cluster at apices of branches; pedicels slender, 17–25 mm long, jointed ± 5 mm from the base.. Sepals elliptic-oblong, 8–9 mm long, 2.5–4 mm wide.. Petals yellow, elliptic, 9–10 mm long, 4–5.5 mm wide, unguiculate.. Anthers slender, 6 mm long, opening by small apical pores, filaments 2.5 mm long.. Carpels 11; stigma capitate, ± lobed.. Fruits not known.
