Large tree to 30 m. high; young branches densely stellate-hairy, somewhat glabrescent.. Petiole 2–3 cm. long, stout, usually scabrid, jointed at base of leaf-blade; leaf-blade elliptic to oblong-lanceolate, 12–21 cm. long, 5–10 cm. wide, acuminate, ± rounded at the base, almost glabrous and shiny above at maturity, ± stellate-pubescent beneath; young leaves prominently stellate-pubescent towards petiole on underside; secondary veins prominent beneath, impressed above; tertiary veins reticulate, ± prominent on both surfaces.. Male inflorescence unknown.. Female inflorescence an axillary spike, 3–5-flowered; flowers sessile, yellowish-brown; sepals rudimentary (see note above); petals 5, free, ± narrowly ovate to almost deltoid, up to 3.5 mm. high and 2.3 mm. wide, borne on the upper margin of the receptacle, glabrous within, stellate-pubescent without; staminodes 5, opposite and basally attached to petals; anthers absent; filaments short, spathulate, up to 1.5 mm. long; ovary 3-locular, with 1 ovule per locule pendulous from the apex of a free central placenta; stigma radiate, 3–5-lobed.. Fruit oblong, ellipsoidal, up to 1.5 cm. long, 0.8 cm. wide in immature state, stellate-pubescent, with the perianth-segments persistent, single-seeded..
