Characteristics

Ascending, glabrous perennial herb, sometimes scrambling over other herbs, with the lower internodes rooting, 0.5–1.6 m. from the uppermost rooting node upwards.. Stem fistular, succulent, coarsely ribbed and furrowed, up to ± 1 cm. wide below, little branched; internodes long, to ± 14 cm.. Lower leaves with the lamina deltoid in outline, ± 8–22 cm. long and 10–30 cm. wide, bipinnate with 3–5 pairs of pinnae, 2–3(–4) pairs of which are stalked; pinnules in 1–2 pairs, the leaflets lanceolate to elliptic-lanceolate, ± 12–50 × 5–20 mm., rather regularly to somewhat irregularly serrate-dentate, the apical and basal in particular often incised on one or both sides, teeth with a rather long, sharp mucro; sheaths narrowly oblong, striate, rounded or auriculate above, ± 1.5–5 cm., broadly membranous-margined; petiole 3–12 cm.; upper leaves similar, becoming smaller, sessile and finally pinnate or trisect.. Umbels on 5–15 cm. peduncles, ± 11–21-rayed, the rays 0.6–3(–3.8) cm., sometimes a central umbellule sessile; involucre absent or of 1–2 linear bracts 3–18 mm. long, usually with abroad, sheathing base; partial umbels ± 10–24(–30)-flowered; pedicels 1.5–3 mm.; involucel of 6–9 very narrow bracteoles 2–8 mm. long, not too considerably exceeding the flowers.. Calyx-teeth small, subulate, subequal, shorter than the petals.. Petals white to creamy-green, oblong-obovate, ± 0.75 mm., incurved.. Fruit broadly oblong, ± 3–4 × 2–3 mm., 4 dorsal ribs broad and rounded, all subequal, marginal/commissural ribs flattened; stylopodia conical; styles rather short, divergent, ± 0.75–1 mm., longer than the stylopodia..
