Characteristics

Weak, glabrous perennial herb, ascending or scrambling up other herbage, the lower part of the stem rooting at the nodes, ± 0.15–0.6 m. from the uppermost rooting node upwards.. Stem fistular, succulent, coarsely ribbed and furrowed with few branches; internodes to 15 cm. or more.. Lower leaves with the lamina broadly deltoid in outline, at least as broad as long and generally broader, 4–16 cm. long, 5–24 cm. wide, bipinnate with 4–6 pairs of pinnae (the lower 1–2 pairs stalked), pinnules in 1–2 pairs; leaflets narrowly to broadly oblong-elliptic, obtuse, ± 6–25 × 4–8 mm., irregularly dentate, often (especially the terminal) incised one or both sides, the teeth with a rather long, fine, subaristate mucro, sheaths narrowly oblong, striate, broadly membranous-margined, abruptly contracted to auriculate above, ± 1.5–3 cm.; petioles slender, 4–13 cm.; upper leaves similar but sessile and less divided.. Umbels on 2–5 cm. peduncles, occasionally lateral and sessile, 5–13-rayed, the rays 8–35 mm., usually scabrid near the top; involucre absent or of 1–4 ± setaceous bracts ± 8–13 mm. long; partial umbels ± 8–16-flowered; pedicels short, ± 1–2.5 mm.; involucel of ± 5–8 narrowly linear to subulate bracteoles 4–12 mm. long, mostly considerably exceeding the flowers.. Calyx-teeth small, subulate, shorter than the petals, subequal.. Petals greenish to white or pinkish-or purplish-white, elliptic-obovate, ± 0.7 mm., early deciduous.. Fruit roundish, ± 2.5–3 mm., 4 dorsal ribs broad and rounded, all subequal, marginal/commissural ribs flattened; stylopodia shortly conical; styles rather short, divergent, ± 0.5–0.75 mm..
