Prostrate perennial herb, with creeping stems producing flowering shoots 2–5 cm. tall and bearing densely tufted congested imbricate leaves, the inter-nodes being suppressed; stems glabrescent.. Leaves linear-subulate, 2.5–3 cm. long, 0.9 mm. wide, drawn out into a filiform apiculum at the apex, broadened at the base into the stipule-sheath, very shortly scabridulous above, glabrous beneath, the midrib beneath broad, mostly occupying almost the total width of the leaf; stipule-sheath 3 mm. long, hyaline, with 3–6 setae 1–2 mm. long.. Flowers heterostylous, crowded in the centre of the tufts, the actual arrangement very obscure but probably condensed cymes; pedicels up to 1 mm. long.. Calyx-tube obconic-campanulate, 1 mm. long, glabrous; lobes subulate, 3–3.5 mm. long, ciliate, the joined part of the limb ± 1 mm. long.. Corolla-tube cylindrical, 5 mm. long, hairy inside; lobes oblong-elliptic to ovate, 2–2.5 mm. long, 1–1.1 mm. wide.. Stamens with filaments exserted 1 mm. in short-styled flowers, minutely hairy.. Style 2.9 mm. long in short-styled flowers, hairy; stigma-lobes linear, 1.1 mm. long, hairy.. Capsule ovoid or subglobose, 1.5–2 mm. long, 1.5 mm. wide, glabrous, the beak rounded and scarcely raised.. Seeds (immature) angular, 0.8 mm. long, 0.5 mm. wide, strongly reticulate, apparently not becoming sticky on moistening; the testa-cells prominently dotted.
