Slender annual herb 5–10 cm. tall, mostly unbranched or with a few lateral branches; stems angular, mostly densely pubescent particularly on the angles.. Leaves held erect, the blades linear, 0.7–1.7 cm. long, 0.5–1.2 mm. wide, apiculate at the apex, passing unnarrowed into the stipule-base, pubescent on upper surface and on midrib beneath; stipule-base 1–1.2 mm. long, pubescent, the limb various, sometimes with a rectangular lobe 1 mm. long bearing 2 fine subulate setae 2.2 mm. long or less often with several additional setae, the outer pair often recurved and horn-like and sometimes with a single seta from an ovate lobe or merely a triangular lobe 1.3–2.6 mm. long.. Flowers isostylous, in 2–5-flowered cymes; peduncles 3.5–6.5 mm. long, pubescent; pedicels 1–3 mm. long, pubescent.. Calyx pubescent; tube hemispherical, 0.8 mm. long, 1 mm. wide; lobes lanceolate, 0.9 mm. long.. Corolla white; tube 1–1.6 mm. long, sparsely hairy inside below the middle; lobes ovate, 1–1.2 mm. long, 0.8 mm. wide, papillate inside.. Tips of anthers just exserted.. Style 1.5 mm. long but well exserted in the case of short corolla-tubes, with literally 2–3 hairs; stigma-lobes 0.5 mm. long, papillate.. Capsule transversely rounded-oblong, 1.1 mm. long, 1.7 mm. wide, sparsely hairy.. Seeds pale chestnut coloured, angular-ovoid, 0.35 mm. long, 2.6 mm. wide, 2 mm. thick, reticulate, the testa becoming slimy when moistened.
