Characteristics

Perennial procumbent carpet-forming herb with stems (6–)15–30 cm. long, sometimes rooting at the nodes, glabrous.. Leaf-blades ovate or oblong-ovate, 0.8–3.8 cm. long, 0.45–1.9 cm. wide, acute or very slightly acuminate at the apex, rounded at the base, with short dense flat adpressed hairs on the margins and for a narrow belt parallel to the margin on upper surface, but otherwise glabrous save for a few hairs on the midvein above; petiole 1–4 mm. long, glabrous; stipule-sheath 0.5–2 mm. long, pubescent or glabrous, produced into a triangular lobe up to 2 mm. long bearing 5–7 filiform fimbriae 1–3 mm. long.. Flowers heterostylous, in few-flowered terminal or axillary cymes, the cymes solitary or in threes; peduncles 0.15–1.4 cm. long or apparent peduncles 3 cm. long, glabrous; pedicels 1–3 mm. long, glabrous; bracts at junction hairy.. Calyx-tube subglobose, 1 mm. long, glabrous; lobes narrowly triangular or oblong-lanceolate, 1.8–2 mm. long, 0.5–0.9 mm. wide, glabrous or ciliate.. Corolla white, pale lilac, blue or pink; tube 2 mm. long, the throat densely hairy; lobes oblong, 2–3 mm. long, 0.8–1.2 mm. wide, hairy at the base.. Style glabrous or puberulous, 1.2 mm. long in short-styled flowers, 3–4.5 mm. long in long-styled flowers; stigma-lobes 0.4–0.8 mm. long.. Capsule subglobose or depressed subglobose, rather thick-walled, (2–)2.5–3 mm. tall, (2–)2.5–3.2 mm. wide, the beak scarcely raised, very rounded..
