Annual erect or suberect herb, branched at every node, with lowest stems as long as the height of the plant, so that plant appears dense and broadly obconical, or branched from the base and more irregular in shape, 5–10 cm. tall, 9–25 cm. wide, or not branched at base but with a few lateral branches, 5–14 cm. tall; stems pale, densely covered with short spreading white hairs, internodes long or short.. Leaves sessile, somewhat succulent; blades linear-or elliptic-lanceolate to lanceolate, 0.5–2.5 cm. long, (0.8–)2.5–7.5 mm. wide, acute and apiculate at the apex, somewhat narrowed to the base, with short white hairs above and on the main nerve beneath, the margin often revolute; stipule-sheath 1–2 mm. long, with 2–5 filiform setae 1–4.5 mm. long.. Flowers heterostylous, in pseudoterminal and axillary 3–9-flowered shortly pubescent or glabrescent cymes; peduncle at first obsolete but enlarging after flowering to 5 mm. long or up to 1.2 cm.; pedicels 1–5 mm. long.. Calyx-tube campanulate, 0.8–1 mm. long, shortly pubescent and with very evident surface rhaphides; lobes ovate-triangular, 1–1.3 mm. long, 0.8 mm. wide, acute, shortly pubescent.. Corolla white or suffused with carmine; tube 1.7–2 mm. long, glabrous outside, densely hairy at the throat inside; lobes oblong-elliptic to ovate-lanceolate, 1.5–3 mm. long, 0.8–1.1 mm. wide, hooked at the apex, papillate-pubescent at the base inside.. Style 0.8–1.2 mm. long in short-styled flowers, 3–3.3 mm. long in long-styled flowers, hirtellous; stigma-lobes 0.6–0.8 mm. long or stigma scarcely lobed in short-styled forms.. Capsule campanulate, 1–1.5 mm. long, 1.4 mm. wide, with short spreading hairs or glabrescent, crowned with the persistent calyx-lobes; beak slightly raised, ± 0.2 mm. tall..
