Perennial, mat-forming herb, 0.1-0.2 m high; stems glabrous to hairy, often rooting at nodes. Leaves up to 37 x 19 mm, ovate, base ± rounded, apex acute; scabridulous above, glabrous beneath; petioles up to 5 mm long. Stipular sheath up to 1 mm long; lobes 5-7, ± 3 mm long. Flowers heterostylous, in terminal triads; pedicels ± 2.5 mm long. Calyx: tube 1 mm long, obconic; lobes broadly triangular. Corolla white, pale blue, lilac; tube up to 7 mm long, hairy in throat; lobes ± triangular. Style ± 3 mm long in short-styled and 8 mm in long-styled forms; stigma lobes ± 0.3 mm long. Flowering time Dec.? Fruit a subglobose capsule, beak slightly raised. Seeds blackish, testa cells coarsely granulate.
Leaf blades 0.3–1.2(3.7) cm. x 3–9(19) mm., elliptic-ovate to ovate, acute at the apex, rounded to cuneate at the base, sometimes rather thick, scabridulous to hairy above, glabrous beneath or sometimes slightly hairy near the margin, rarely pubescent on midrib; petiole 0.5–2(5) mm. long, glabrous to sparsely hairy; stipule sheath 0.5–1 mm. long, glabrous to sparsely hairy, with 5–7 lobes 1–3 mm. long.
Calyx tube 1–1.5 mm. long, obconic, glabrous, hairy or with sparse to dense subglobose papillae, sometimes purple-tipped; lobes 1–4 x 0.7–1 mm., usually broadly triangular, less often ovate or lanceolate, keeled, glabrous or sometimes hairy on the midvein and margins, free or connate at the base.
Perennial procumbent usually mat-forming herb, with glabrous to hairy much-branched stems often rooting at the nodes, or scrambling to suberect, 0.8–1.4 m. long, or prostrate with erect flowering shoots (2.5)7–10 cm. tall.
Flowers heterostylous in terminal triads or few-to several-flowered cymes, less often solitary; peduncle 0–1.5(2) cm. long; pedicels 0.5–2.5(7) mm. long, glabrous.
Corolla white, pale blue, lilac or pink; tube 2–7(10) mm. long, hairy in the throat; lobes 1.5–5.5 x 1.2–2.5 mm., triangular to oblong-lanceolate, hairy inside.
Seeds blackish, c. 0.5(0.8) mm. long, elliptic, flat on one side, somewhat conically raised on the other, strongly reticulate.
Style 2–3(6) mm. long in short-styled forms, 5–8(12) mm. long in long-styled forms; stigma lobes 0.3–0.7 mm. long.
Capsule 2–2.5 x 2.2–3 mm., subglobose, glabrous, papillate or hairy, beak slightly raised.
