Characteristics

Perennial herb, ± 0.3 m high; stems slender, ± 4-angled, decumbent, intricately branched. Leaves 0.3-14.0 x 2.5-9.5 mm, ± ovate, base rounded, apex subacute, abruptly narrowed; petioles ± 3 mm long, thinly membranous. Stipular sheath 0.5 mm long with 2 or 3 very short lobes ± 1 mm long. Flowers heterostylous, terminal and axillary; pedicels slender, up to 9 mm long. Calyx: tube ± 0.7 mm long, obovoid; lobes foliaceous, ovate-lanceolate. Corolla white, pale violet; tube 4-5 mm long, ± slender, glabrous inside; lobes 2.2-5.0 x 2.3 mm. Style 2.5 mm long in short-styled and 5 mm in long-styled flowers. Flowering time July-May. Fruit an obovoid capsule, crowned by calyx lobes. Seeds black, testa carunculate.
