Oldenlandia verrucitesta Verdc.

Species

Angiosperms > Gentianales > Rubiaceae > Oldenlandia

Characteristics

Flowers probably isostylous in narrow rather spike-like cymes due to suppression of leaves and bracts at flowering nodes on the branches of the dichasium which well overtop the true terminal flower; 1–2 flowers at each node; pedicels 2–3 mm. long but when single flowers top reduced branches apparently up to 1.5 cm.
More
Leaves subsessile, 1–2.5 cm. x 1–6 mm., lanceolate, acute at the apex, attenuate at the base, scabrid puberulous above, ± glabrous beneath; stipule sheath c. 0.5 mm. long with 5–7 unequal fimbriae up to 1.5 mm. long.
Seeds black, ellipsoid, the longest dimension about 0.8 mm., the testa cells polygonal with straight walls and characteristic rather coarsely tuberculate reticulate lumen.
Calyx tube c. 0.7 mm. long, subglobose, distinctly papillate; lobes c. 1 mm. long, narrowly triangular or oblong, somewhat decurrent in fruit.
Corolla white; tube scarcely 2 mm. long, narrowly funnel-shaped, glabrous outside and throat not bearded; lobes c. 1 mm. long, ovate-oblong.
Annual herb according to collector but probably perennial, with weak probably straggling glabrous quadrangular stems branched from the base.
Capsule depressed, usually broader than long, 1.5–3 x 1.5–3 mm., distinctly papillate, the beak slightly raised, the valves c. 0.5 mm. tall.
Anthers sessile, about half-exserted; style exserted, the stigmatic lobes about 1 mm. long.
