Characteristics

Leaves opposite to alternate; petiole 5–20 mm long; lamina thinly coriaceous, green or grey-green, 5–11 × 1–5 cm, narrowly elliptic-lanceolate to ovate-elliptic, acuminate, cuneate at base, velvety pubescent to slightly scabridulous on both surfaces, with 8–12 pairs of lateral nerves, the lower ones more ascending.

Corolla 2–2.5 cm long (before inrolled), hairy; tube green, 2–3 mm long; lobes free for 3–8 mm, with inflexed ciliate margins, forming a tongue at the base of each sinus, this part darkening and framing the vents of mature buds, upper coherent part bright red and inrolled.
Umbels c. 16–20-flowered, hairy all over; peduncle 5–17 mm long; pedicels 2–4 mm long; bract with linear-lanceolate to leafy limb 3–15 mm long, up to 5 mm wide.
Stamen filaments attached to free part of lobes; anthers 2.5–3 mm long.
Berry bright red, 6–7 × 4–5 mm, obovoid, puberulous.
Style red; stigma capitate, 0.7 mm across.
