Characteristics

Small shrub with relatively short spreading branchlets; twigs soon terete, tomentellous with short rusty dendritic hairs, soon glabrescent.. Petiole 3–5 mm. long; lamina thinly coriaceous, elliptic to obovate, 2–4 cm. long, 1–2 cm. wide, obtuse or rounded at the apex, cuneate to shortly rounded at the base, rusty tomentellous beneath but soon glabrescent apart from a few scattered dendritic hairs, with 4–8 pairs of lateral nerves, the lower ones sometimes rather strongly ascending.. Racemes 1–several in axils and at older nodes, with 4–8 flowers on an axis 1–2 cm. long; pedicels 1–2 mm. long; bract boat-shaped, 1.5–2 mm. long.. Receptacle 1–1.5 mm. long, puberulous.. Calyx 0.7–0.8 mm. long, slightly toothed, ciliate.. Corolla regular, 3.8–4.5 cm. long, orange-red to carmine, puberulous, glabrescent, especially on the lobes; bud-tip fusiform; tube 1.5–1.8 cm. long; basal swelling ovoid to globose, 3 mm. long, tube narrow for 4–5 mm. above, then flared; lobes erect, with the upper half reflexing.. Filaments inserted 6–8 mm. above the base of the lobes, the upper two-thirds slightly thickened, loosely coiled and generally breaking off; anthers 2–3 mm. long, with a minute connective-appendage..
