Twigs slightly compressed, soon terete, glabrous to very shortly spreading hairy.. Leaves alternate to subopposite; petiole 2–7 mm. long; lamina fleshy, slightly glaucous, ovate to elliptic-oblong or oblanceolate, 2–7(–9) cm. long, 1–4.5 cm. wide, bluntly pointed to rounded at the apex, cuneate to rounded at the base, glabrous to shortly spreading hairy, with 1–2 pairs of strongly ascending lateral nerves from near the base.. Flowers clustered in the axils or more commonly at older nodes; pedicels 1–3 mm. long; bract cupular, 2–4 mm. long, subtruncate or with a short lobe, slightly keeled or gibbous, glabrous to papillose-hairy.. Calyx tubular, 4–6 mm. long, slightly lobed, papillose..
