Characteristics

Subshrub, up to 1 m high. Leaves alternate, sessile; blade narrow-linear, up to 45 x 2 mm, apex obtuse or bluntly acute, margins entire, revolute, thinly appressed-pubescent. Heads discoid, solitary, terminal and axillary. Involucral bracts in several series, imbricate, oblong; outer roundish or ovate, apex obtuse; inner oblong, apex subacute, all close-pressed, silky at first, glabrate. Flowers: disc florets only, purple; Feb.-May. Fruit with cypsela minutely pubescent. Pappus: outer row of short scales; inner row of subplumose bristles.
