Characteristics

Shrub about 1 m. tall; young stems, leaf-rhachis, underside of leaflets, inflorescence-rhachis, pedicels and ovary white pubescent; swollen-based hairs scanty on the young stems and ovary, absent elsewhere.. Leaves usually in tufts; stipules ± 3 mm. long; leaf-rhachis 8–25 mm. long, including a petiole of 2–5 mm.; leaflets 11–19, elliptic-oblong, 3–5 mm. long, 1.5–2 mm. wide, their margin not revolute; midrib and lateral veins purplish-black beneath.. Inflorescence 1–2-flowered; rhachis up to 9 mm.; bracts lanceolate, ± 2 mm. long; pedicels up to 8 mm. long; bracteoles oblong-lanceolate, 2–3 mm. long.. Pedicel above, bracteoles and calyx (except for its margin) glabrous; receptacle-cup 0.5 mm. deep, 3.5 mm. long, 2.5 mm. wide; tube 2 mm. long; upper lobes 2.5–3 mm. long; lateral lobes triangular, 3 mm. long; lower lobe triangular-lanceolate, folded, 3.5 mm. long.. Corolla persistent, yellowish-purple with dark reddish-brown veins, the venation much less conspicuous than that of O. muricatum; claw of standard 2–3 mm. long, blade ovate, truncate at the base, 13–14 mm. long, 15–16 mm. wide, with 2 narrow shelf-like incurved pointed horizontal basal appendages; claw of wing 3–4 mm. long, blade narrowly obovate, auriculate above at the base, 13–14 mm. long, 7–8 mm. wide; claws of keel 4–5 mm. long, the blade 6–7 mm. wide, shortly and obtusely rostrate, the upper margin 11–12 mm. long, almost straight except for the basal auricle, lower margin semicircular.. Stamens (5) + (5) or, less often, (10), united part 7–9 mm., free parts 3–5 mm., anthers 1 mm. long.. Disc cylindrical, 0.2 mm. deep.. Ovary soon becoming arcuate, 4–5-ovulate, pubescent; stipe 3 mm. kmg, glabrous at the base; style 10–11 mm. long.. Fruit strongly curved.
