Herba annua 0.3-1.2 m alta undique ± glanduloso-pubescens saepe e basi ramosa, ramis vetustioribus interdum decumbentibus; caulis erectus herbaceus vel basi lignescens usque 1 cm crassus; caulis et rami teretes striati; internodia ad basin caulis brevissima sursum accrescentia 1-5 cm longa. Folia alterna membranacea basi semiamplexicaulia; inferiora petiolata, petiolo basi exauriculato vel ± late auriculato 1.5-3 cm longo, lamina elliptica-ovata-rhomboidea 4-7(-15) cm longa 1.5-3(-6) cm lata basi cuneata apice acuta vel rarius obtusa margine ± grosse sinuato-dentata vel lobato-dentata vel repanda; intermedia sessilia vel subsessilia e basi lata et auriculata ± contracta et iterum in laminam lanceolatam-ovatam acutam sinuatodentatam vel repandam dilatata; superiora sessilia i late auriculata lanceolata vel lineari-lanceolata acuminata dentata vel subintegerrima 2-5 cm longa; nervus medius subtus elevatus, nervi secundarii in foliis inferioribus utrinque 3-4 conspicui. Inflorescentiae laxae in caule et ramis terminales corymbosae multicapitulatae; pedicelli capitulorum graciles dense glanduloso-puberuli bracteis paucis anguste lanceolatis-lineari-subulatis 0.5-2 cm longis interdum basi leviter auriculatis instructi; capitula fructifera nutantia. Involucri squamae c. 20 uniseriatae fere aequilongae lanceolatae vel lineari-lanceolatae 6-8 mm longae 1-2 mm latae acuminatae dorso parce glanduloso-pubescentes margine sat late albido-scariosae ciliatae. Flores radii involucri squamas numero aequantes; ligulae flavae-aurantiacae involucrum 2-3-plo superantes; flores disci numerosi inferne flavidi superne atropurpurei. Achaenia triangulari-pyriformia 4-5 mm longa trialata, alis 1-2 mm latis semipellucidis; latus tangentiale saepe minutissime rugosum et foveolatum, latera radialia plerumque sublaevia; cavernula apicalis minuta interdum vix conspicua fenestra carens. In capitulo vulgo etiam achaenia 1-2(-3) teretia exalata rostrata usque 10 mm longa adsunt.
