Herba perennis 3-6 dm alta; caules singulares vel pauci e caudice c. 0.5 mm crasso subterraneo lignoso exeuntes erecti vel saepe adscendentes vulgo superne modo ramosi herbacei e basi paullum lignescentes rigidi teretes striati glandulosi asperi vel rarius sublaeves corymbo terminati ramis lateralibus corymbiferis superati; internodia ad basin caulis brevia sursum accrescentia usque 6 cm longa. Folia inferiora et intermedia (vel rarius infima modo) opposita, superiora vel saltern summa alterna, inferiora oblongo-lanceolata-anguste obovata basin versus in petiolum cuneatim angustata petiolo incluso 3-6(-9) cm longa 1-2 cm lata acuta vel rarius obtusa, intermedia oblongo-lanceolata vel lanceolata basin versus angustata subpetiolata vel sessilia interdum ± late auriculata acuta, superiora lanceolata vel lineari-lanceolata c. 1.5-5 cm longa 0.3-0.7 cm lata sessilia interdum auriculata acuta, omnia rigide membranacea ± aspera glandulosa apice mucronata margine remote sinuato-dentata-denticulata vel rarius pinnatifido-dentata (summa subintegerrima), dentibus callosis mucronatis. Inflorescentiae laxae in apicibus caulis et ramorum corymbosae; pedicelli capitulorum dense glanduloso-asperi bracteis paucis lineari-subulatis 3-5 mm longis instructi. Involucri squamae 10-13 uniseriatae fere aequilongae lanceolatae 3-6 mm longae 1-1.5 mm latae acuminatae dorso glandulosoasperae margine sat anguste albido-scariosae. Flores radii involucri squamas numero aequantes; ligulae flavae involucrum 2-3-plo superantes; corollae florum disci flavae; appendix apicalis antherarum atroviolacea. Achaenia in eodem capitulo dimorpha: trialata et exalata; plurima triangularia alata, alis 2-3 mm latis semipellucidis, 9-12 mm longa omnibus lateribus usque ad fenestram sulco longitudinali instructa; cavernula apicalis trifenestrata, fenestris ellipticis c. 2 mm longis 1 mm latis; achaenia exalata 1-3 (interdum nulla) teretia parce glandulosa c. 14 mm longa c. 1.5 mm diam. rostrata, rostro solido.
