Herba perennis 2-5 dm alta; caulis erectus vel adscendens e caudice subterraneo exiens simplex vel saepius parum ramosus sulcatostriatus brevissime glanduloso-asper-puhescens ± glabrescens basi lignescens usque 5 mm crassus. Folia alterna membranacea viridia glanduloso-aspera-pubescentia; basalia conferta ± rosulata obovata-elliptica basin versus in petiolum semiamplexicaulem angustata petiolo incluso usque 12 cm longa usque 3.5 cm lata apice obtusa saepe rotundata margine subcallosa repanda vel leviter sinuato-dentata; folia cavdina et ramealia ± remota, inferiora basalibus similia, cetera sursum decrescentia anguste elliptica-(ob)lanceolata sessilia remote sinuato-dentata-denticulata obtusa vel acuto-acuminata; nervus medius subtus elevatus, nervi laterales in foliis inferioribus utrinque 1-3 conspicui subtus prominentes venulis anastomosantibus. Capitula in apicibus caulis et ramorum solitaria vel in corymbum laxum disposita pedunculata, fructifera nutantia; pedunculi longitudine variabiles usque 18 cm longi bracteis paucis integerrimis inferioribus lanceolato-linearibus superioribus linearibus instructi. Involucrum 4-5 mm altum; squamae subuniseriatae fere aequilongae ovatae-lanceolatae acutae vel acuminatae per medium dorsum virides glanduloso-puberulae margine late albido-scariosae. Flores radii involucri squamas numero aequantes; ligulae flavae involucrum duplo superantes; flores disci flavi. Achaenia glabra recta matura 15-17 mm longa omnia trialata, alis rigidis stramineis subimpellucidis 3-4 mm latis; latera laevia vel sulco longitudinali ± conspicuo instructa interdum leviter echinulata; fenestra ovata c. 3 mm longa.
