Herba perennis; caules singulares vel pauci e caudice lignoso usque 1 cm crasso exeuntes inferne fruticosi 2-3 mm crassi superne herbacei erecti vel adscendentes 2-5 dm longi parum ramosi teretes glabri glauco-virides saepe rubescentes. Folia alterna subcoriacea glabra glauco-viridia, basalia conferta ± rosulata spathulata basin versus cuneatim angustata semiamplexicaulia apice rotundata saepe mucronulata usque 6 cm longa usque 2 cm lata integerrima vel rarius remote dentata; folia caulina ± distantia, inferiora spathulata integerrima vel interdum remote sinuato-dentata apice rotundata vel obtusa, superiora oblonga-lanceolata obtusa vel rarius acuta; nervus medius' albidus subtus elevatus, nervi longitudinales in foliis inferioribus duo vix conspicui. Capitula in apicibus caulium et ramorum solitaria vel laxe corymbosa (corymbis 3-4-capitulatis); pedunculi graciles 2-10 cm longi superne brevissime glanduloso-pilosi bracteis paucis linearibus vel lineari-subulatis 2-5 mm longis instructi. Involucri squamae subuniseriatae fere aequilongae c. 12 lanceolato-oblongae c. 4 mm longae 1-1.5 mm latae obtusae dorso glanduloso-puberulae margine sat late albido-scariosae interdum ex parte violascentes. Flores radii involucri squamas numero aequantes; ligulae flavae vel aurantiacae involucrum plus duplo superantes; flores disci numerosi flavi. Achaenia glabra laevia c. 8 mm longa c. 2 mm lata triangularia trialata, alis pellucidis c. 1 mm latis; cavernula apicalis trifenestrata, fenestris oblongis vix 1 mm longis.

Perennial herb, 0.2-0.5 m long. Leaves: lower leaves obovate-cuneate to spathulate, obtuse, tapering much at base, glabrous, entire; upper leaves oblong, half clasping at base; pedicels scabrous. Involucral scales linear, obtuse. Cypselae smooth, with 3 narrow wings.
Like O. scariosum but leaves mostly entire, glabrous, spathulate, and achenes with wings 1 mm wide.
