Characteristics

Fruticulus divaricate ramosus 1-1.5 dm altus; rami vetustiores lignosi robusti usque 0.5 cm crassi cortice atrofusco cicatricoso obtecti; ramuli glanduloso-asperi (-pubescentes) rigidi intricati plurimi spinescentes, spinis 0.5-2(-3) cm longis; ramuli capituliferi laxe bracteati post fructificationem vulgo in spinas transformati. Folia alterna glanduloso-aspera(-pubescentia) lineari-oblanceolata 1.5-2.5 cm longa 0.2-0.4 cm lata remote dentata, dentibus parvis utrinque 1-3, apice acuta vel subobtusa basin versus in petiolum 0.5-1 cm longum angustata, petiolo basi paullum dilatato semiamplexicauli; nervus medius supra vix conspicuus subtus prominens. Capitula in apicibus ramulorum solitaria; involucrum 3-4 mm altum; squamae c. 10 fere uniseriatae subaequilongae oblongae vel oblanceolato-oblongae per medium dorsum virides glanduloso-puberulae margine late albidoscariosae. Flores radii involucri squamas numero aequantes; ligulae luteae involucrum duplo superantes; flores disci lutei. Achaenia c. 7 mm longa triangularia, angulis in alas 1.5-2 mm latas productis, apice cavernulam includentia; latera omnia parce glandulosa sulco longitudinali ± conspicuo instructa; latus tangentiale minutissime tuberculatum; cavernula apicalis trifenestrata.
