Ovary with 2–3 ovules from apex of erect twisted free-central placenta, the tip of which is drawn out into a point; stigma ± capitate, very obscurely 2–5-lobed.
Flowers hermaphrodite, in long leafy terminal racemes or panicles, often solitary in the axil of each leaf (bract), rarely in 3(7)-flowered dichasia.
Fruit indehiscent, globose, endocarp bony, obscurely 5-ribbed, outer coat fleshy, crowned with persistent perianth.
Stamens 5, inserted at base of lobes; anthers attached to face of lobe by conspicuous tuft of hairs.
Scandent shrub; branches long, lax, slender, patent or pendulous.
Bract (leaf) free from peduncle; bracteoles 2, minute.
Perianth tube cylindric; lobes 5, valvate.
Leaves alternate, triplinerved, petiolate.
Disk lobed, distinct.
