Characteristics

Short-stemmed, tuberous geophyte, up to 0.6 m tall, with turnip-shaped root felted at apex. Leaves congested, ovate-elliptic, sessile, mostly 50-200 x 50-150 mm, minutely and sparsely denticulate or coarsely runcinate. Flowerheads in lax corymbs on branched peduncles, radiate, yellow; involucre campanulate, 8-10 mm diam., bracts 10-15, 8-14 x 1.5-2 mm. Cypselas 5-7 mm long, striate-pubescent; pappus 5-6 mm long.
