Characteristics

Tuberous geophyte, with straggling stems, up to 0.7 m tall, woolly at crown, accessory basal leaves suborbicular-cordate with wiry petioles. Leaves lanceolate to rotund, cordate and stem-clasping, 20-100 x 5-50 mm, upper leaves smaller, entire but often undulate and slightly revolute. Flowerheads disciform, solitary and terminal or axillary, white or yellow; involucre campanulate, bracts 10-12, 5-8 x 1-2 mm. Cypselas ± 4 mm long, pubescent; pappus 10-20 mm long, often reddish-banded.
