Leaves decussate, often pseudo-verticillate; blades ascending to ± erect, c. (12)15–32 x (0.8)1–2 mm., linear, glabrous, somewhat coriaceous; petioles subobsolete; stipular sheath with usually 3 minute setae.
Calyx: enlarged, foliaceous lobe(s) 1(2), c. 1–6 x 0.5–1.2 mm., narrowly oblong-lanceolate, glabrous, the others minute, c. 0.2–4 mm. long.
Seed dark brown, c. 1.5–2 x 0.6 mm., ± ovoid, dorsal side convex, slightly keeled, ventral side concave.
Dwarf shrub or woody herb, several-to many-stemmed, usually ± erect.
Stems c. 10–30 cm. long, ± much-branched, with hairs in 2 rows.
Bud with limb abruptly expanded into an oblong-elliptic head.
Fruit brownish; mericarps c. 1.8–2.2 x 0.5–0.7 mm.
Inflorescence spike-like, c. 8–15 cm. long.
