Leaves decussate; blades 9–12 x 3.5–4.5 mm., ovate to ovate-lanceolate, often a little hairy on margins and veins, especially below, or glabrescent; petioles subobsolete or to c. 1 mm. long; stipular sheath with 1–3 minute setae.
Calyx: enlarged, foliaceous lobe 3–5 x 1–1.5(2) mm., ovate-lanceolate to lanceolate, often a little hairy, setiform lobes minute.
Seeds brown, c. 1.5 x 1 mm., (sub)globose to ± oblong, dorsal side convex, slightly keeled, ventral side ± flat.
Perennial tufted or cushion-or mat-forming herb with 20–50 stems from a ± massive woody rootstock.
Stems c. 8–15 cm. long, erect, branched or unbranched, hairy all over or with 2 rows of hairs.
Inflorescence few-to several-flowered, head-like, to c. 1 cm. in diam.
Bud with limb abruptly expanded into an ovoid head.
Fruit brownish; mericarps c. 2 x 1.5 mm.
