Corolla white, pink, lilac or pale blue, tube 3.5–5.5 mm. long, filiform, glabrous, lobes 2–3 x 0.8–1 mm., lanceolate, sometimes a little hairy outside, filaments c. 1–2 mm. long, glabrous, anthers to c. 0.7 mm. long; style 5–6 mm. long, stigma lobes 1–1.5 mm. long; ovary c. 1 x 1 mm., densely hairy.
Leaves decussate; blades (7)10–20 x 1.3–6 mm., elliptic to linear-lanceolate, glabrous or sometimes a little hairy above; petioles subobsolete or to c. 1 mm. long; stipular sheath with 3 filiform setae to c. 1 mm. long.
Calyx: enlarged, foliaceous lobe(s) 1(2), 3–6 x 1–2 mm., elliptic to linear-lanceolate, often glabrous, setiform lobes less than 1 mm. long.
Inflorescence several-flowered, head-like, c. 1 cm. in diam. when in flower, somewhat elongated when in fruit.
Seed brown, c. 1.5–2 x 0.8–1.2 mm., oblong, dorsal side convex, slightly keeled, ventral side ± flat.
Perennial tufted or cushion-forming herb with up to c. 25 stems from a somewhat woody rootstock.
Stems 10–20 cm. long, erect or suberect, often unbranched, mostly with 2 rows of hairs.
Fruit yellowish brown to dark brown; mericarps 2–2.5 x 1–1.5 mm.
Bud with limb abruptly expanded into an ovoid head.
