A rather hoary, decumbent herb, probably perennial.. Stems greenish-brown, densely pubescent with white hairs, glabrescent with age.. Ocreae often crowded and obscuring the stem, membranous, densely pubescent, 0.7–1.2 cm. long, the leaf inserted a little above the middle, terminally truncate and fringed with pubescent, red setae 7–10 mm. long.. Leaves petiolate, narrow-lanceolate, up to 2.7 × 0.6 cm., the margin entire or with 1 small sagittate lobe half way along, densely and closely hairy on both sides, very acute with an extended mucro, basally sagittate with lobes up to 6 mm. long, and below the lobes often shortly cuneate to the petiole, the margins revolute, and the midrib very prominent below.. Petiole 0.6–1.2 cm. long.. Inflorescence ± stout, elongated, often arcuate or gently so, 6–18 cm. long.. Bracts 2–4 mm. long, with a dorsal seta 4 mm. and lateral setae 1–2 mm. long.. Pedicels just exceeding the bracts.. Flowers 1–3 together, white flushed with pink, ± 5 mm. long; tepals oblong; long styles 4 mm. long, connate for 1.5 mm. (short styles not seen); stigmas yellow.. Fruit (immature) 6 mm. long, fusiform, densely pubescent, with three prickles 1 mm. long, spreading from the centre.. Fig. 6/8, p. 35.
