Characteristics

? Perennial herb, probably with a trailing woody base, and with ascending, reddish, puberulous stems.. Ocreae 5–8 mm. long, membranous, puberulous, truncate with a terminal fringe of rather wavy setae ± 5 mm. long.. Leaves petiolate, up to 5 × 1.2 cm., lanceolate, elliptic-lanceolate, or subdeltoid, the margins ± entire or more usually shallowly sinuous, very acute long narrowed to the base, glabrous, pustular on the undersurface.. Petioles rather long, up to 1 cm. in length.. Inflorescence elongated, rather stout, up to ± 35 cm. long, straight or slightly arcuate.. Bracts 2.5–4 mm. long, puberulous to glabrous, fringed with 3–5 setae ± 2 mm. long.. Pedicels somewhat exceeding the bracts.. Flowers strongly heterostylous. Long styles 3–3.5 mm. long, free almost to the base, strongly exserted. Short styles 1 mm. long or slightly less. Tepals ovate-elliptic, 2 mm. long (5 mm. in long-styled flowers, fide Dammer).. Fruit 5 mm. long, fusiform, thinly papillose, with 3 spreading prickles a little below the middle.

Hermaphrodite flowers strongly heterostylous; perianth 5-lobed; tube 1.5 mm long, pubescent outside; lobes 2–2.5(5) mm long, oblong.
Nut c. 5 mm long, fusiform, trigonous, papillose, with 3 spreading prickles on the angles a little below the middle, 3–5 mm long.
Ocrea 5–8 mm long, membranous, truncate with a terminal fringe of reddish wavy setae c. 5 mm long.
Stems red-brown, trailing or ascending, 40–50 cm long, longitudinally striate, puberulous.
Filaments 2–3 mm long; anthers 0.3–0.4 × 0.2–0.3 mm, ellipsoid.
