Characteristics

Confervoid and exceedingly slender in detail, still making a bright green, prostrate mat, rooting freely, with yellow rhizoids. Stems up to 2 inches long, simple or somewhat pinnately branched, often freely branched, delicate in texture as if etiolated. Leaves very lax or distant, placed round the stem, spreading, 0.5-0.75 mm long, ovate-acuminate, subulate at the apex, concave and keeled below, clasping, pellucid; those on the ultimate branches smaller; nerve thin, difficult to see, extending half-way or more, and forming the keel; margin expanded, denticulate from near the base; cells pellucid, smooth, linear-oblong, those toward the base shorter, and those in the clasping corners almost quadrate. Other parts not seen.
