Characteristics

Unarmed evergreen trees. Leaves alternate, pari-or imparipinnate, with 1–9 opposite or alternate leaflets with numerous pellucid gland-dots which may be obscured in thick leaflets; petiolules not twisted; stipules small, very caducous. Inflorescence of spiciform racemes aggregated into panicles; flowers spirally arranged; bracteoles very small, not concealing the young flower-buds, persistent. Sepals 5(–6, fide Léonard), imbricate (2 smaller outer, 3 somewhat larger inner). Petals 0. Stamens (8-, fide Léonard) 10; filaments free, pubescent below. Disc present between stamens and ovary, small, cushion-like. Ovary sessile, pubescent; ovule 1; style elongate, glabrous, tapering to a minute terminal stigma. Fruits indehiscent, ± compressed, asymmetric, non-stipitate, with or without a proximal wing; pericarp usually with longitudinal veins running from apex of fruit. Seeds solitary, large, ruminate or foveolate, resinous.
