Leaf blades, 3.5–15.5 x 0.9–5.2 cm., oblong-elliptic to oblong-lanceolate or-oblanceolate, acuminate at the apex, cuneate at the base, glabrous above save for short hairs on the narrowly impressed midnerve, entirely glabrous or pilose on the main nerves beneath; lateral nerves ± 12 on each side, together with other venation prominent to very prominent beneath; petioles short, 2.5–10 mm. long, usually pubescent; stipules 0.3–1.35 cm. x 0.8–2.5 mm., lanceolate, appressed pubescent.
Inflorescences axillary, short, the cymes c. 1 cm. long; peduncles 1–5 mm. long; pedicels 0–3.5(4) mm. long; bracts 1.5–2.5 mm. long, lanceolate; all parts pubescent Calyx glabrous, pubescent or hairy; tube 0.6–1.1 mm. long; limb tube 0.3–0.9 mm. long; lobes yellow, red or purple, 0.4–2.8 mm. long, lanceolate-subulate.
Corolla glabrous (or rarely puberulous) outside, greenish, yellow, cream or white but sometimes reported to be orange or yellow turning red and certainly often drying red; tube 2–5 mm. long, longest in short-styled flowers; lobes 1.7–3.1 x 0.8–1 mm., oblong-lanceolate.
Forest shrub or small tree, apparently sometimes somewhat scandent, 1.5–9(12) m. tall, with finely appressed pubescent to distinctly hairy twigs; older stems glabrescent.
Style glabrous or sparsely papillate, 3–4.6(5.5) mm. long in long-styled flowers, 1.4–2.8 mm. long in short-styled flowers; stigma 0.45–0.8 mm. long.
Stamens as long as the corolla lobes in short-styled flowers, just included in long-styled flowers.
